Pull up a chair and go back in time to watch a rollicking session with first-class Missouri fiddler Cyril Stinnett.

A new DVD from Missouri Valley Music features almost four hours of video of legendary fiddler Cyril Stinnett.
In this collection assembled from the home video recordings of Dwight Lamb from 1979-80, Cyril rips through over a hundred fiddle tunes, including a collection of the twisty hornpipes and reels he’s known for along with his unique versions of warhorses like Mississippi Sawyer, Grey Eagle and Sally Johnson. Also included are less well-known gems like Leddy’s Hornpipe, Ariel Horpipe, Red Lion Hornpipe, Centerville, and a slew of B♭ hornpipes. This is traditional music at its finest: an informal setting, relaxed musicians, and great music.
The source material for this DVD is three sessions recorded by Dwight, one recorded outdoors at the Fillmore fiddle contest, one later that night in Cyril’s kitchen, and one in Dwight’s living room, all with top-notch backup players Pete Stinnett, Dave Copeland, and Elvin Campbell. You may have seen a few of these recordings on You Tube. They have been cleaned up and organized by tune for the DVD.
Missouri Valley Music is selling the DVD for $18, which includes postage. You can send a check to Missouri Valley Music, 511 South Pleasant, Canton, SD 57013, or email and request a PayPal invoice, if you’d like to use your credit/debit card.
Update: There has been a request or two for a tune list to accompany the DVD. Included is a version with the tunes listed for each session and a second list of the tunes in title order, so you can easily find “Gypsy Hornpipe” when you’re ready to learn it.
