Gordon McCann, music collector and accompanist from Springfield, Missouri, died July 17, 2026, at the age of 94. In addition to building an enormous collection of field recordings tracing the history of fiddling in the Missouri Ozarks over 60 years, he was well-known for his collaborations with fiddler Art Galbraith. His life’s work has passed into the care of the Missouri State Library, where they are converting his tapes into digital format and making them available for easy, public access. Check out this recording of a session with Art Galbraith from 1981.
Kaitlyn McConnell of Ozarks Alive published a heartfelt tribute to Gordon.
