Polly Burre Memorial Old Time Fiddlers’ Contest

Sunday, June 30, 2019 • Noon Registration begins at 11 a.m.
Community Hall, Tebbetts, Missouri

Prize money is awarded in four divisions: Youth (16 and under), Pre-open (17-30), Open (31-59), and Senior (60 and older). Registration for the contest is free; admission to the contest is free, too. Each fiddle contestant will receive a $10 food voucher for participation (and the homemade pie is excellent).

The event is part of the Tebbetts Community Picnic, which has been going since 1948. Tebbetts is located 13 miles east of Jefferson City on Highway 94. (map)

The contest is named for the late Kenneth “Polly” Burre (1916-1999), who was a well-known organizer, promoter, and emcee of fiddle contests all over Missouri.

Jake Hockemeyer Memorial Fiddlers’ Contest

The Jake Hockemeyer Old-Time Fiddle Contest is rich in tradition. It is named after the late master fiddler who held his own with contemporaries like Taylor McBaine, Pete McMahan, and Lyman Enloe. The contest is held in Jake’s hometown of Mokane, Missouri. Mokane is located 18 miles east of Jefferson City on Highway 94.
